Project specifications
  • Floor area: 9.644 m²
  • Function: office + catering
  • Start of construction: spring 2017
  • Completion: first quarter 2019
  • Location: Weesperplein 4, Amsterdam
CapitalC, Amsterdam

The former Diamond Exchange (Diamantbeurs) in Amsterdam has a rich history, in terms of its architecture and of the many functions it has accommodated over the years. In February 2015 Willem Sijthoff and Zadelhoff Beheer acquired this building with the intention of redeveloping it as the Centre for the Creative Industries. Peak Development is assisting the owner with the development and project management.

The future building will bear a new name, CapitalC, and accommodate a mix of flexible workspaces, permanent office spaces and meeting and conference facilities. These functions will be supported by a grand café on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Besides a new use, the exterior of the building will also change. Following the demolition of a roof extension dating from the end of the 1980s and reinforcement work on the structure, a start was made restoring the original roofline in collaboration with Braaksma & Roos architects. An impressive 9.5-metre high glass dome has since been added, designed by Zwarts & Jansma Architects. Now the building has regained its charm, where historic and modern architecture merge stylishly and where creative businesses, including Sijthoff Media, can find a home.
